The Foundation Stage Curriculum
At Puddleducks we also participate in The Foundation Stage curriculum.
This curriculum is organised into six areas of learning. Each area then has a number of Early Learning Goals which indicate what children are expected to be able to do at the end of The Foundation Stage i.e. the end of the reception year of their education. These six areas are as follows:
- Personal, social and emotional development which relates to the development of confidence and independence, concentration and learning how to enjoy sharing as part of a group.
- Communication, language and literacy development which covers communication with one another and developing skills in talking, listening, writing and reading.
- Mathematical development which relates to using ideas about number, quantity, measurement, shape and space.
- Knowledge and understanding of the world which covers investigating and beginning to understand the things, places and people around them.
- Physical development which relates to improving control and co-ordination of the body while learning to move and to handle equipment.
- Creative development which covers finding out about ways to communicate using colour, shape, sound, texture, movement and stories.
A Record of Achievement covering these areas will be completed for each child. This is a record of your child's progress and development.
As you can see, the Montessori curriculum includes and expands on these areas of learning and, whilst we identify and qualify our activities according to these goals, we always endeavour to adhere to the Montessori philosophy of following the child.
